TOTD: Quit Wasting Money on Highend Makeup

For those of you who know me, you know I’ve always been a bit on the tomboy side (okay, maybe more than a bit). I love dressing up when I get the chance, but I rock the T-shirt and jeans on the daily. I finally bought my first pair of skinny jeans about 6 months ago (it’s a start)! When I actually wear makeup, it’s always the same amateur look. Brace yourselves folks…this is about to change! I recently began to delve into the wonderful world of makeup but I’m not gonna lie, it’s quite intimidating.

I’ve looked up reviews to try to find the best products for my skin type (extremely oily and acne prone). Of course most of the highly recommended items are high-end products. I don’t know about you, but I can’t afford to buy a $30 foundation, a $15 eyeshadow, a $20 blush, and a $15 lipgloss…not to mention eyeliner, mascara, bronzer, and primers for every part of the face! NO THANK YOU! I want to LOOK like a million bucks, not spend it!

I found this ELF 144 Bright Eyes Palette for $15 at (I used Ebates for 6% cash back), um…yes please! I figured this would be a good starting point for me because I can practice many different looks without breaking the bank. 😉 After finding this, I wondered what else was available in my budget…and then I hit the jackpot! The motherload of all dupes was at my fingertips. I love you Temptalia! This place has it all: a swatch gallery for those of us who don’t know what the popular colors look like and the Dupe List to search for cheaper alternatives.Dupes

Apparently it is common knowledge in the makeup world that the ELF HD Powder is the perfect dupe for the Makeup Forever HD Powder. Or that the best blush EVER is NARS Orgasm and that Milani Luminoso Baked Blush is a great dupe. I’m new to all this, cut me some slack! I also found quite the list in a Makeup Geek forum, but it’s from 2008 so I’m not sure how much still applies. It may, however, come in handy if you have run out of your favorite product that has since been discontinued.

I guess the moral of this post is: why pay for high-end makeup when there are plenty of budget-friendly drugstore alternatives?! Not to mention that someone else has already done all the work for us by finding these dupes. So what’s your favorite dupe? Do you still find yourself using the high-end or do the dupes work for you? From what I’ve been seeing, the Naked palettes don’t have many dupes available…do you know of one?

Here’s what I do: Google best______ for ______ skin (fill in the blanks). See what other people with your skin type really like. Then check out one of these dupe sites or just Google _____ dupe…super simple! It takes a little time but usually saves quite a bit! Well worth it in my opinion…Happy Shopping. 😉
